Congratulations!

Posted by Gwyn on November 19, 2008

inv_misc_celebrationcake_011Many congratulations to Tinkie for getting to 80! Now he just has to wait for the rest of his guild to book their ideas up and catch up to him! He’s a Restoration Druid, but specced Balance for the expansion. He’s also the (current) guild know-it-all about instances and quests. We love you Tink!

73

And I managed to ding 73 last night. Next to a random human on a ram even though I tried getting Cablin in there too, but hey - can’t get everything right. We plan on hitting 74 later, since we both want to have a wander around Dalaran, and I want to see the shop where my character will be lurking, and spending copious amounts of gold, constantly.

Murloc Momma?

squee

I had *so* much fun doing that quest. We hit 72 (and Cab managed to sneak in 73 too) last night so we wandered over to the Tundra that people really, really dislike. In our guild anyway. I haven’t found it that boring as yet, but we only made it half way through quests before calling it a night. Though something terrible has begun.

Our epics.

Are being replaced.

By blues and greens.

Yes, very slowly at first - but its happening. At least we raided towards the ‘end’ of Burning Crusade with a grin on our faces knowing we were going to be updated, but you still have to swallow that nominal amount of pride and switch in that green I think. Some of the items look rather pretty too, which is a bonus - especially when switching from epics.

inv_misc_bag_satchelofcenariusAs for my professions, Herbalism hit 425 last night (much quicker than I thought it would) and Alchemy is around 400. I’m only using the herbs I pick up from questing areas - I haven’t bought any, and I’m not having much of a problem. Once I collect enough, I’ll push through to 450. I’m determined to save gold and only use what I collect - thats why I picked herbalism, right?

A whole new world.

Posted by Gwyn on November 17, 2008

Just like almost everyone else, me and Cablin have been spending our time in Northrend as of late. This place is fantastic - I’m not just talking about the graphics and the EXP - but the sheer interactiveness of the expansion. I’ve been collecting critters from traps, blowing up mines to get gems, and looting mobs that have been killed by NPC’s. Blizzard have really outdone themselves this time!

ding71

Yes, I reached 71. I’m not rushing leveling in this expansion - so many people are, we have a 76 Druid (go go Tinkie!) in our guild and we’ve already seen the achievements for realm first popping up here, there and everywhere. The first level 80 on our server was a Tauren shaman, he dinged 80 while we were playing with our Death Knights. (Yeah, our game time has been split between our Druids and two deliciously evil Death Knights - such a deliciously evil class to play, with my own deliciously evil ghoulish minion to order around. Yum!)

The quests in this expansion, and the areas themselves, are beautiful I don’t want to rush around leveling. When I get to 80, I get to 80. Some people like the rush however, so power to them.

pniguisland1

I feel like a tourist sometimes. I had to take a picture of the penguins… I mean look how cute they are! Were only questing in Howling Fjord, I’m going to be terrible in the other areas. My herb bag is full of strange new herbs which look really pretty, my bag full of green items that are nearly as good as my epics, and I’m really enjoying it!

frosty1

Meet the newest member of our family - Frosty. He’s very shy, unlike his more brutal ancestors, and prefers to eat my cooking. No wonder he’s looking so thin…

The Wrath Checklist

Posted by Gwyn on November 13, 2008

Taking inspiration from a lot of bloggers at the moment, I figured I’d share my Wrath of the Lich King checklist too. I’ve thought about it for a good few weeks now, and we finally settled a few days ago.

Spec;

spell_nature_protectionformnatureI’ll be staying Restoration, as I level alongside Cablin anyway. He’s staying DPS (Balance) as far as I know (though he did complete his tanking set last night - hurray!) so it’ll be pretty easy to level together. I can keep him healed when he tanks as a Moonkin so even those tricky group quests will be easy enough to do. Hopefully.

Consumables;

inv_potion_168I’ve been stockpiling herbs to make potions and elixirs for the expansion, though I’m unsure how useful they will truly be. Either way, were pretty stocked up on them. Bandages, check - Netherweave ones, just in case. I don’t want to fall flat on my face in Northrend because I was getting mana back and some Mammoth sat on me. Food and drink? I didn’t actually get food to carry over - I’m sure that there will be a nice little vendor to sell some Northrend cuisine to me when I get there.

Quarantine;

inv_box_petcarrier_01Since I carry all my pets with me these days, they’ve all been through a reputable quarantine and have had all the shots available. I don’t want Twinkie McTwinkle, the White Kitten getting flu over there. Right? I have plenty of space for new additions also, and have anticipated the grind towards Exalted for new members of my miniature family.

Clothing;

  • inv_chest_cloth_15Spellpower+ set
  • Mana regen set
  • Cablin tank set
  • Cablin Moonkin set
  • Earmuffs, Talbuk fur boots, thick undergarments, the scarf Cablin’s Grandma elf knitted him..

Bank space;

inv_misc_toy_07Have I cleared out my (very messy) bank? Of course! I had a small jumble sale for friends, giving away what was useful and selling off whatever else at the AH. I had collected so many cards, random blues, and even a rather nice epic that I had never, ever used. A shame, but it was taking up space. For some reason I’d also collected some rather random gray/white items… Oh well. There was no mercy!

Addons;

inv_valentinesboxofchocolates02Done, done and done. One thing I really hate is being ‘addon-blind’. I never used to use addons, now? I can play without them, but its a nuisance. I think I’ve become to lazy and dependent on them. Luckily every one of them has been updated for WOTLK, and I’ve even picked some others up for the ride.

You see? As we get ready to enter the snowy North, we hope you are too. Remember, be responsible and don’t leave your Mounts or pets alone at home! Remember to wrap up warm, and most of all - decimate those Scourge responsible for Ghouling us all up a few weeks ago!

‘The day of Wrath has come.’

Posted by Gwyn on November 12, 2008

wrath

Taking inspiration from Matticus, this post is all about looking back. Wrath of the Lich King is going live at 00.01 tonight, and Cablin has a Collectors Edition for both of us - we won’t be installing till Friday when we can be together to explore. We weren’t here for The Burning Crusade’s launch, so this was a completely new experience for us both. Its been a lot of fun in all honesty - the Scourge event climaxing with the Frost Wyrms attacking Stormwind Harbor, with the fun transformations along the way.

Pre-WoTLK has been a huge rollercoaster ride for me. I’ve raided, grinded, worked my professions up to 375, done daily quests day, after day, after day… But soon enough my level 70 won’t be the highest level anymore. Oh no. In an matter of hours, that epic equipment won’t be some of the best in the game…

How do I feel?

Excited! Gwyn is my favorite character, so being able to level her again is going to be amazing. I remember the grind to 70, and how much I hated it. When I dinged I was so happy that I’d never have to level her again. A long time later, and I can’t wait till I do actually level her. The new raids sound fun to do, and the new areas look really pretty!

High points of The Burning Crusade, for me (in no order);

  • Raiding Karazhan for the first timeepicff
  • Making my first 1000 gold
  • Completing the Epic Flight Form quest with Cablin
  • Getting Alchemy, Herbalism, First Aid and Cooking to 375
  • Progressing, and moving into Black Temple raids
  • Getting full epics
  • Being able to afford epic flying skill (5,000!)
  • Reaching 5,000 gold before the Isle of Quel’Danas quests became available!
  • Stepping through the Dark Portal with Cablin at 61
  • Respeccing Restoration on a whim
  • Getting accepted into <Apollyon> with Cablin

What are your major achievements for The Burning Crusade? What are the good times you remember?

Black Temple fun!

Posted by cablin on November 10, 2008

Well! Today was pretty unexpected; The guild had said that they wanted to do a Black Temple run and me being me, I thought they we’re joking… Soon found out they weren’t. So Gwyn and I head to Black Temple, I think we were both a little surprised at downing three bosses… Well done Apollyon!

To say it was our first run, although there were a few mistakes, which are bound to happen on a first run; I think it went pretty smooth. Few screen shots below showing our victory over Supremus, High Warlord Naj’entus and Shade of Akama, unfortunately I didn’t get any of the loot… silly Moonkin!

najentus1

Also while digging through my screen shots I found a few that made me laugh; ones of when there was no hassle, no raiding…

What can I say? We were new!

sleepen-bears

Never offer to boost you’re friends; especially when they decide that the humans in the funky looking tabards would be fun to play with!

Weekend!

Posted by Gwyn on November 9, 2008

We spent some casual time on game this weekend, as we didn’t raid Saturday - we did ZA on Friday, meaning Cablin just *had* to win the trinket in there which gives him an army of gnomes

cab-the-bear

We also wanted to get some new leggings before the expansion, so we pushed for Heroics. Yes - Cablin did respec as a tank for Mana Tombs and Mech! He did really well too, which I think he was surprised at. He hasn’t tanked in a long, long time. He does still prefer Moonkin, so it was back to respec afterward… But I still think he enjoyed having a big fat Bear bum instead of a big fat Moonkin bum staring at him!

newpants

The reward was new pants for the both of us, so we can go into the expansion looking like twin hippies. Though, something that disgruntled me over the weekend was that I lost all my macros. I was not amused! I’d been trying with a few mouse-over macros that Cablin had found, which were pretty fun. I think I still prefer having 2~ Lifebloom macros for the tanks though. I keep it pretty simple;

/target tankname
/cast Lifebloom

Anything more and I forget them to transfer them to Cabs computer when I’m at his. Mouse-overs were good, but I kept having moments where I’d try cast something other than my mouse-over spells and stumble. So for tonight I’ll be back to simplicity - while trying to dig out the other macros I had!

Events galore!

Posted by Gwyn on November 6, 2008

tyrandedoomed

Well, we ordered our expansion copies today. I guess that signifies to me that Wrath is just around the corner - I know some people in our guild have had the expansion on order for 10+ months, I feel so late!

I’m looking forward to it. New areas, new enemies, a bag full of new herbs, a new penguin mini pet named Pengu that is so totally going to be mine… I wasn’t around when Burning Crusade went live (a mere twinkle in my Momma Druids eye) so this is really exciting for me. The event leading up to the release has been great fun so far, as you can see by the screenshot above, I’ve had my fun. Yes, that was Cablin going AFK near Tyrande. Yes - A ‘random’ Ghoul blew up near everyone. No, not completely random… The Ghoul was picked flowers beforehand. Tyrande owned them all though, including the infected Cablin. He wasn’t quite sure what had happened when he got back, his own leader having beat him down.

That, and the Halloween event has kept me busy for a few weeks. I managed to get ‘Gwyn the Hallowed‘ (Cab got his title too!) so that makes us happy bunnies; as well as 2 new mini pets for my army collection. Sinister Squashling and Vampiric Batling!

fanmail

The fan mail had its kicks too. Though, it did burst my bubble a little when Cablin had the same note. Who does the kid think he is? Just what are they teaching the Orpans these days?

Zul’Aman

Posted by Gwyn on November 4, 2008

Yep, me and Cablin managed to get Zul’Aman done and dusted this evening! I’d already gone through, but Cab still had to so it was fun having a good old run around in there. I’m not that experienced with the bosses, but we still managed to get there and get Zul’Jin down! One of our warrior tanks got some heavy duty gear also - pointless when Wrath of the Lich King is around the corner but still very satisfying.

No Mojo. Boo. He’s an awesome mini pet that would be welcome in my army collection.

I’m so comfortable in <Apollyon> - the players are friendly and are very good at what they do. I know in Wrath the guild is going to blossom, and I want to be a part of that - as well as Cablin, of course. We actually went into SSC last night too, nothing of real interest dropped aside from a nice offspec tanking staff for Cab; [Wildfury Greatstaff] (link).
